Issue types

JAT is published two times per year, with one non-thematic issue (continuous publication) and one thematic issue (published in December). Occasionally JAT publishes thematic sections in the non-thematic issues.

Submission and peer review of submissions are handled via OJS.  All submissions need to follow the general editorial policy of the journal (see Instructions for authors). All submissions first undergo quality control by the JAT team and guest-editors in case of the thematic sections and thematic issues. If a submission does not meet the journal's basic quality standards, it will be desk rejected (see Peer review policy). If deemed suitable for further consideration, it will enter the peer review process.

NON-THEMATIC ISSUES

For the open issues, JAT follows the continuous publication (CP) model. The CP model allows for the immediate publication of an article as soon as it is ready; that is, peer-reviewed, approved by the Editorial Board, copyedited, typeset, and proofread. This way accepted articles do not need to wait until a particular issue of the journal is completed.

The non-thematic issue will have a publishing deadline on the last day of November. However, the online issue will be fed throughout the year and when the deadline for the non-thematic issue passes, it is closed and the next issue starts to be fed. JAT collects submissions for the non-thematic issues throughout the year (there is no submission deadline).

THEMATIC SECTIONS

The Journal of Audiovisual Translation occasionally publishes thematic sections in the non-thematic issues which contain 3-6 articles. The aim of thematic sections is to bring out articles on a particular theme in order to enable new insights into topics relevant to audiovisual translation and media accessibility.

The first available slot for a thematic section is 2026. The call will be announced HERE.
